Samsung India has launched the next generation of its Galaxy Tab A, mid-range tablet in India, the Samsung galaxy Tab A 2017, which is available for ₹17,999 at Samsung’s online store, as well as through the Korean manufacturer’s online and offline partners since October 10. This comes less than a month after the Korean manufacturer launched its Galaxy Note 8 in India.
This tablet is 4g-enabled and will come with a data package offer for users of Reliance Jio, which includes 180GB of additional 4G data for one year. As part of its launch offer, Samsung is also including a one-time screen replacement. Both the data and screen replacement offers are available for customers who buy the tablet from October 10 to November 9, 2017.
Appearance & Key Specs
This “entertainment powerhouse,” as Samsung terms it, is currently available in gold and black, and was first launched as Galaxy Tab A 8.0 in Vietnam. With an 8-inch display, the Galaxy Tab A 2017 offers resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, with the manufacturer claiming that the screen brightness is such that the display is easily to see even in bright sunshine. The TFT display offers brightness of 480 nits.
Powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, the tablet comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 256GB with a microSD card. What is exciting is that the Galaxy Tab A 2017 has a huge 5000mAh battery that offers up to 14 hours of video playback, up to 36 hours of talk time and 153 hours of audio playback.
Measuring 212.1×124.1×8.9 mm and weighing 364 gm, this tablet runs on Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box and comes with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI. In addition, along with 4G LTE, the device offers connectivity options of dual band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/, GPS/A-GPS. Micro USB, Bluetooth v4.2 and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Camera & Media Options
With an 8MP primary and 5MP secondary camera, Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2017 includes the HDR mode, which the company says will allow users to take pictures with a natural balance of shadow and highlights. The rear camera has an f/1.9 aperture, with LED flash, while the front camera has an f/2.2 aperture.
The reason why Samsung calls this tablet an “entertainment powerhouse” is that it comes with the Smart View feature that allows users to connect the tablet wirelessly to a large screen TV for a better video-watching and gaming experience. In addition, you can tether the tablet to other Samsung devices and even switch between them seamlessly with the Samsung Flow feature. Gaming enthusiasts should also check out the Game Launcher.
One of the most exciting features of the Galaxy Tab A 2017 is the all-new Bixby Home support, an AI-enabled voice assistance that Samsung has introduced in its mid-range tablet for the very first time. Bixby understands and responds to user behaviour and the user’s routine, suggesting apps, content and other things, based on the person’s usage and location.
Moreover, the tablet offers a host of other useful features, such as Blue Light Filter, which the manufacturer claims would help reduce blue light emission, which is considered harmful, thereby allowing disruption-free sleep. There is also a Kids Mode, offering a safer UI, along with a library of curated educational games for kids.
“At Samsung, we are always listening to consumer feedback and recognize the need for creating devices and services that fit diverse needs. Galaxy Tab A 2017 is the perfect blend of great display, powerful performance and multimedia experience. It is targeted for consumers seeking a holistic and quality entertainment experience. Galaxy Tab A will help us consolidate our market leadership in the country,” stated Vishal Kaul, Director of Mobile Business for Samsung India.
