iPhone X’s most prominent feature, the Face ID, has evoked a lot of interest among users and hackers alike. According to an ET News report, Samsung is in the process of coming up with an iris scanner for faster face recognition on its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy G9. With this development the company intends to take on the killer feature on Apple’s iPhone X. It is expected that the lineup of Galaxy S9 will be akin to the S8. The new smartphone will not have any upgrade in terms of hardware, structure and basic specifications. However, the S9 will be different from its predecessor when it comes to software.

Front-facing 8-megapixel Autofocus Camera Sensor

The Galaxy S9 has been seen recently on GeekBench, a benchmark listing. This listing reveals that the phone will run on Android Oreo OS, have 4GB RAM and sport an infinity display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Moreover, the device is likely to be powered by Samsung’s Exynos 9810 octa-core processor. Previous reports suggest that the G9 will have two variants. One of the variants will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor whereas the other variant will be powered by an Exynos chipset.

It is also rumoured that the base model of G9 will come with an internal storage of 64GB while the top end variant will have an internal storage of 128GB. And in all probability, the company will announce a 256GB limited edition of the Galaxy S9.

Some leaks also suggest that the G9 will have a front-facing 8-megapixel autofocus camera sensor. This indicates that the device may have a feature which is similar to iPhone X’s TrueDepth System for facial recognition. A recent KGI Securities’ note says that the S9 is likely to sport a rear dual camera setup.

The Galaxy C9 Pro, launched in January this year, is the first Samsung phone that comes with 6GB RAM.
