If you don’t yet know that Samsung has slashed the prices of some of its key devices, we aren’t surprised. The South Korean electronics company quietly cut prices of its midrange smartphones in India, the Galaxy S8+, Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017). This comes soon after the price cuts that the company had announced for Navratri in September.
Samsung Galaxy S8+, which was launched in April for ₹64,900 is now cheaper by ₹6,000 and is available for ₹58,900. The 6GB RAM, 128GB storage variant of this smartphone has already seen two price cuts, while this is the first price cut for the 64GB variant. The Galaxy S8 is now available for ₹53,900.
The 2017 edition of the Galaxy A5 and A7 had been launched in March 2017, priced at ₹28,990 and ₹33,490, respectively. Each smartphone has now received a price cut of about ₹4,910, with the Galaxy A5 (2017) now available at ₹17,990 and the Galaxy A7 (2017) available for ₹20,990.
All three phones can be bought on online stores like Flipkart and Amazon India, along with Samsung India’s own online store. In addition, buyers can also look for further discounts via exchange offers on Samsung’s official online store. There is also a one-time screen replacement offer on this website, under Samsung’s Never Mind scheme.
It is still unclear whether these price cuts are for a limited period of time or whether they are likely to be permanent.
What’s So Special About the Galaxy S8 and S8+?
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are premium flagship phones from Samsung. They were the first smartphones from the South Korean company to feature the all-new Infinity Display, with thin bezels at the top and bottom. The S8 has a 5.8-inch, while the S8+ has a 6.2-inch, Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display, with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and dual curved edges. While both models run on the Exynos 8895 chipset, the former comes with 4GB RAM with 64 GB of internal memory, and the latter comes with 6GB RAM and internal memory of 128GB.
With the Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and Samsung’s TouchWiz IU, these smartphones come with a 12MP rear, dual-pixel autofocus camera with optical image stabilization feature, and an 8MP front camera with autofocus. Additional features include DeX, which can transform the device into a PC, with an additional dock. There is also a fingerprint sensor on the back, along with iris scanning technology.
In addition, the S8 comes with a 3,000mAh battery, while the S8+ comes with a 3,500mAh battery, while both phones are IP68 water and dust resistant.
The Galaxy A Series
The 2017 editions of the Galaxy A5 and A7 also have interesting features, making the price cuts a good reason to check out these smartphones. The A5 has a 5.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, while the A7 has a slightly larger version at 5.7 inches.
Both devices run on the Exynos 7880 octa-core processor, offering 3GB RAM and internal storage of 32 GB, which can be expanded to 256GB with an SD card. In addition, both phones come with 16MP primary and secondary cameras, with aperture of f/1.9 and support for 1080p video recording.
