OnePlus 5T limited edition version sporting a Storm trooper and the Star Wars logo on the front, with a white back cover that has Star Wars written on it in red.
Die-hard Star Wars fans are eagerly waiting for December 15, for the launch of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a last chance to see Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher together in a Star Wars film. Ever since the very first film, Star Wars: A New Hope, released in 1977, Star Wars has captured our imagination like very few other films have been able to. And despite having grown up much after that time, I have been an avid fan, never missing a Star Wars marathon on TV or a new release in the theatres. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I first heard that OnePlus has decided to celebrate the Star Wars fandom with a special Star Wars Limited Edition of its 5T. The best part is that this smartphone, coming in very soon after the 5T was launched in India, is set for release in India on December 14, 2017.
As soon as I heard that the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Limited Edition was coming to a galaxy not too far far away, I checked out everything I could about it. The first thing I noticed in the leaked images was that it did look different from the recently launched flagship smartphone, with the limited edition version sporting a Stormtrooper and the Star Wars logo on the front, with a white back cover that has Star Wars written on it in red. The company has now announced that the device will be available exclusively in India from December 14 on its e-store, oneplusstore.in, as well as its physical stores in Noida and Bengaluru.
Definitely not the last Jedi to be released by OnePlus, for now little is known about the pricing of this limited edition device. However, the company did release a press statement that said, “Star Wars has enthralled generations with their masterful storytelling from a galaxy far, far away, with the best in technology and strong engagement with their fan community. Similarly, OnePlus too has a dedicated community that is deeply passionate about the best in technology, design and attention to detail. With this befitting association, the OnePlus community will be able to thoroughly enjoy the legacy of both the brands.”
The special edition smartphone will feature customised software based on the Star Wars theme, with a black and white design, very reminiscent of the Stormtroopers, although the features of this device are expected to be the same as the OnePlus 5T. The redesigned exterior will come with a white finish on the rear and a OnePlus logo in black beneath the fingerprint sensor. The handset’s dual tone design seems to be similar to the Panda-style Google Pixel 2 XL, unveiled in November. The 5T Star Wars edition will also have a button in an additional colour, just like the Pixel 2 XL. Going by the posters, the handset’s front, volume as well as power buttons will come with a black finish.
OnePlus has come up with several special editions in the past. Last year, the company launched the matte black Colette edition and a Midnight Black limited edition of the OnePlus 3T. The Midnight Black edition became very popular, making its way to the design of the standard version of the OnePlus 5. Moreover, the OnePlus 5 received a special Castelbajac edition, which was also sold via Colette. The company also launched OnePlus 5T’s Lava Red limited edition in China.
The launch event for this smartphone will be held at IMAX Wadala, Mumbai, on December 14, for which fans can book tickets via Paytm for ₹999 from December 7, 10:00 am onwards. I will be there, will you?
