BSNL launches mobile wallet in partnership with MobiKwik. Unlike all the other mobile wallets that exist in the country, the BSNL wallet is only going to exist for BSNL customers.

BSNL has launched its mobile wallet at an event in New Delhi, a few days ago. The state run company had signed a MoU with MobiKwik in the month of May so that they could create this mobile wallet together. Unlike all the other mobile wallets that exist in the country, the BSNL wallet is only going to exist for BSNL customers.

A statement by the company has said that the intention of this mobile wallet is to take digital payments to rural India and semi-urban India. The digital wallet will be able to be used across 1.5 million merchants across India. According to BSNL, this makes it the largest mobile wallet by any telecom company in India.

The Minister of State for Communications, Manoj Sinha, Secretary DoT, Aruna Sundararajan and the CMD of BSNL Anupam Shrivastava were present at the launch event.

Telecom minister Manoj Sinha, while launching the digital wallet, said that “With this co-branded wallet, the ease of payment will be extended to all the customers while equally strengthening financial inclusion in the rural hinterlands, which often get neglected. Going digital is the need of an hour for both urban and rural areas, and this partnership is definitely a step in right direction.”

Anupam Srivastava, the chairman of BSNL, has said that “Through this strategic partnership between BSNL and MobiKwik, we are taking another important milestone in achieving PM Modi’s vision of enabling and making India a less-cash society based on his grand vision of digital India. We at BSNL are proud to be part of this program and will ensure that all our 100 million BSNL customers will be able to seamlessly and conveniently transact and pay mobile and other financial payments through the co-branded MobiKwik wallet.”

Bipin Preet Singh, the founder and CEO of MobiKwik has said that the alliance with BSNL is going to “empower masses in India with access to dependable internet connectivity and digital payments.” He also said that the “BSNL wallet will enable masses in paying bills, recharging their phone connections and paying for their daily purchases, within seconds.”

The distribution and the marketing of the mobile wallet is going to be carried out by BSNL while the operation and the development will be taken care of by MobiKwik. The mobile wallet is going to allow customers to pay bills as well as recharge their mobile connections.

The mobile wallet is going to be performing as a marketplace as well as a service. BSNL is going to be integrating the digital sale of its products with the mobile wallet. The company is going to be starting with the digital sale of its SIM cards. It is expected that new products will be added to the mobile wallet.

The BSNL customers will also be able to pay their bills with the help of the MobiKwik wallet. BSNLs mobile wallets design and user interface is similar to that of MobiKwik’s. The MobiKwik wallet allows users to pay their electricity bills, book hotels and bus tickets, and also recharge their DTH connections and mobile connections. The company has recently partnered with Samsung Pay for a one tap payment solution. It has also integrated its payment system with Google Play.
