Microsoft has plans to launch its Surface Book 2 notebooks in new markets across the globe, including India.
In October last year, the software giant had launched Surface Book 2 with 8th generation Intel Core processors. The company plans to launch the 13-inch and 15-inch screen sizes in different markets globally later this year. In the US, the notebook’s base model starts at a price of $1,499 (about ₹95,700).
While so far, the 15-inch Surface Book 2 was available only in the US, pre-orders for this model have already begun in 17 countries, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
“Later in the year, 13-inch and 15-inch Surface Book 2 will be rolled out to China, Hong Kong and India, among others,” says a Microsoft blog post published yesterday. Apart from these three markets, the software giant has confirmed that Surface Book 2 would also be launched in Bahrain, Italy, Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand and the UAE.
Excitement went to the next level after Microsoft sent out invites for an event in Gurugram, scheduled for January 23. There are speculations of Surface Book 2 being launched on this date, although there have been no indications of the same from the company.
While the 13-inch model comes with a 7th generation Core i5 chipset, the 15-inch model is powered by a new 8th generation Core i7 CPU. The former offers with 8GB RAM, and the latter has 16GB.
The displays of both the Surface Book 2 models have an aspect ratio of 3:2. While the 13.5-inch one has resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels, with pixel density of 267PPI, the 15-inch model has 3240 x 2160 pixels, with 260PPI pixel density.
Both the models offer internal storage choices of 256GB or 512GB or 1TB SSD. Both pack in discrete Nvidia GPUs, although the higher-end version of the 13-inch model offers GeForce GTX 1050 with 2GB graphics memory, while the 15-inch model comes with GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB graphics memory.
Surface Book 2 has a detachable hinge design, which allows you to use it as a tablet with stand. The heavier model, with 15-inch screen, weighs 1.9 kg.
For connectivity, Surface Book 2 offers USB-A and USB-C as well as full-size SD card reader and headphone jack. It has an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The notebook also supports Surface Pen with tilt and 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, as well as on-screen Surface Dial.
