Chinese smartphone maker Gionee showcased eight smartphones at a launch event held in Shenzen, China on November 26. The FullView handsets come with a near bezel-less design and comprise a screen-to-body ratio which is higher than the company’s other devices. Among these eight smartphones, the Gionee S11 will be launched in India within the next few months while the Gionee M7 Power was launched earlier this month.
The Gionee S11S was unveiled first at a launch price of CYN 3,299 (approximately Rs.32,250). This smartphone has a 6.01-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with resolution of 1080×2160 pixels. The device comes with a metal and glass body, and features a shiny finish along with an optical nano coating as well as a 3D curved design. The handset’s frame, which is made of stainless steel, is claimed to be 27% harder than aluminium.
The 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel rear cameras and the 20 megapixels and 8 megapixels front cameras offer bokeh effects in real time. Moreover, they consist of FaceBeauty 4.0 with which it is possible to apply different effects depending on the skin colour and shape of your face. The front cameras offer a 105 degrees field-of-view. The Gionee S11S is capable of outputting 3D photos by combining multiple images. Also, the fingerprint scanner on the rear can be used to trigger the selfie camera as well as several apps.
The S11S runs on Gionee’s Amigo 5.0 just like the other handsets showcased in Shenzen. The customized Android has a game mode which stops notifications from disturbing you while you play a game or watch a video. The device also offers a location-based feature or service which pushes promotional offers towards you while you are entering a shop or a restaurant. Besides this, the service shows you maps while you are at an airport. Currently, the service is available only in China.
All the eight dual-SIMs Gionee phones offer support for enhancing the internal storage. The S11S offers 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, is powered by a MediaTek Helio P30 SoC processor coupled with NFC support and has a 3600mAh battery along with an 18W or 9V/2A support for fast charging. Connectivity options include Micro-USB port, FM radio, and a 3.5mm audio jack.
The new Gionee S11, which was launched at the event, comes with a design which is similar to the S11S. It sports 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel front cameras and 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel cameras at the rear. The smartphone is powered by a Helio P23 SoC processor, has a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display, offers a 3410mAh battery and comes with 4GB RAM as well as 64GB storage. The launch price of the Gionee S11 is CYN 1,799 (Rs.17,500 approximately).
At the event, Gionee announced that the M7 will be available in two more colours, Amber Gold and Maple Red. The M7 was first unveiled in September 2017 in Beijing. The device is powered by a 2.5 GHz MediaTek Helio P30, offers 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, has a 6.01-inch AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio, offers a 4,000mAh battery. Gionee launched its new flagship, the M7 Plus, at the event. This smartphone has a dual security encryption chip which can encrypt contacts, messages and photos. It also sports a live fingerprint
detection ID scanner, which is capable of checking your blood flow besides pattern matching. The device’s stainless-steel frame comes with a gold coating of 21K. Moreover, it has a leather finish on the rear. The leather has been put through a 105-step process to ensure a premium look, according to the company.
The M7 has a 6.43-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display whereas its screen-to-body ratio is 86%. Its 5000mAh battery comes with 10W support for wireless charging. The device offers 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage, and is powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC. It sports 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel rear cameras and has an 8-megapixel front camera. The launch price of the M7 Plus is CNY 4,399 (approximately Rs.43,000).
The new M7 Mini was also launched at the event. This device offers a 5.5-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720×1440 pixels, has 2GB RAM and 32GB storage, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, has a 4000mAh battery, and offers 8-megapixel front and rear cameras. The smartphone comes at a price of CNY 1,399 (roughly Rs.13,650).
The M7 Power was showcased in Shenzen. This handset has been launched recently in India. As the name suggests, Gionee M7 Power’s key highlight is its huge 5000mAh battery, which can provide a talk time of approximately 56 hours and standby time of 625 hours. Moreover, the device offers a 6.0-inch HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, a Snapdragon 435 processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, a front camera of 8 megapixels and a rear camera of 13 megapixels.
The company also launched two new F-series smartphones, the F6 and the F205, at the event. The Gionee F6 is similar to the S11 Lite. It offers a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720×1440 pixels, comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, has a 2970mAh battery, and is powered by Snapdragon 435 SoC. The device has 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel cameras on the rear and an 8-megapixel front camera.
The F205 comes with a 5.45-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720×1440 pixels, 8-megapixel as well as 5-megapixel cameras on the front and rear, offers 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, is powered by a MediaTek 6739 processor, and has a 2670mAh battery. The F6 and F205 cost CNY 1,299 (approximately Rs.12,700) and CNY 999 (roughly Rs.9,750), respectively.
The company claims that it has worked in tandem with developers to ensure that the apps optimized for a FullView display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and various services for streaming videos are available through several app outlets in China.
