Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has joined hands with Indian smartphone manufacturers.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has joined hands with Indian smartphone manufacturers like Lava and Micromax to launch budget devices with bundled voice and data pack. There has been no indication of the cost.
BSNL, which still operates on 2G and 3G spectrums, has plans to launch 4G with VoLTE on pilot basis before the end of march and is working on 5G. The 4G services of the state-owned network would be available across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Responding to Competition
The latest move comes in a bid to counter the Reliance JioPhone in July, which currently provides 4G at the lowest data rate. In response to stiff competition from Jio, Bharti Airtel paired with Karbonn to launch a 4G smartphone earlier this month. The effective price of the smartphone is Rs.1,399, although one would need to pay a total of Rs.2,899 for the device and bundled Airtel services and offers. Continuous monthly recharges make the user eligible for refunds, which over 36 months would be Rs.1,500, lowering the cost of the phone from Rs.2,899 to Rs.1,399.
The BSNL Plan
The new BSNL plan, priced at Rs.429, gives users 1GB of data every day for a total of 90 days. The smaller recharge, priced at Rs.249, also gives users 1GB per day, but for only 28 days. The offer also includes unlimited BSNL-to-BSNL calls.
PTI quoted Hyderabad Telecom District (HTD) Principal General Manager K Ramchand as saying that six rural exchanges had already been commissioned with Wi-Fi in Hyderabad Telecom District and another 112 rural exchanges will be covered by December end.
The Diwali Bonanza
BSNL recently announced its Diwali’s Laxmi offer, in which it is providing its customers 50% talk times when they top-up in denominations of Rs290, Rs390 and Rs590. The offer lasts from October 16 to October 21. On Rs110 top-ups, BSNL is offering full talk time for 30 days starting October 10.
