The Android 8.0 update comes with several other features like a PiP (Picture-In-Picture) mode, which enables multitasking, more than 60 new emojis, Google Play Protect, adaptive icons, notification dots and a consolidated settings menu.
Huawei has reportedly started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro. The Chinese company had launched a beta program for Mate 9 in October this year. The Oreo update which is being rolled out first in China comes with a customized EMUI 8.0 experience from Huawei. It is expected that the update will be released soon in other countries. Reports indicate that Huawei’s Porsche Design edition of Mate 9 will also be upgraded.
The EMUI 8.0 comes with an artificial intelligence feature, viz. a digital assistant with translation tools, voice commands, and more. This assistant uses machine learning to know a user’s patterns and behaviour, which enable it to predict what a user will do next. The update also brings a desktop Projection mode. Moreover, it comes with dual Bluetooth audio support. As of now, very few smartphones with Bluetooth 5.0 offer dual audio support. The Huawei Mate 10 Series introduced the first mobile AI-specific Neural Network Processing Unit, thus launching a new era of intelligent smartphones.
Users of the Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro will not get the update through an OTA. They will have to download the update manually. For this, they need to access the Huawei Mobile Services app and follow several on-screen prompts for upgrading their phones.
According to some reports it is likely that the Huawei P10 and Honor V9 will get similar updates. However, currently the updates are in beta version. So, it may take a while before these updates are released for users of Huawei P10 and Honor V9.
