Amazon has launched yet another budget smartphone, the 10.or D, in India. The launch of this smartphone from Amazon India’s 10.or (pronounced tenor) private label, follows the launch of the 10.or G and 10.or E in September. The 10.or D, developed in tandem with Longcheer, is an integral part of the ‘Crafted for Amazon’ programme, which features products ‘Made in India’ as well as ‘Designed for India’. Both the 10.or G and 10.or E have been developed in collaboration with Huaqin Technology.
The base model of 10.or D offering 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage costs Rs.4,999 while the variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage is priced at Rs.5,999. Both the inbuilt storage options can be expanded via a microSD card slot. The 10.or D will go on sale on January 5, 2018. Pre-bookings for the first sale have commenced. Users will need to register on Amazon India in order to get alerts regarding the sale, which is not a flash sale, according to the company.
Going by the prices, the 10.or D competes with the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, which has been launched recently. As of now, there is no news on the launch offers. However, Amazon India has disclosed that Amazon Prime members can avail an additional one-year warranty. For after-sales service of the 10.or D, Longcheer has got into a tie-up with B2X. At this juncture, there are 32 service centres in the country. The 10.or D will come with several preloaded Amazon apps which can be accessed through a sign-in method after booting your device.
Keeping in tune with the trend of releasing light-weight app variations for emerging markets, Amazon has launched the Kindle Lite Beta app in India.
The Nano dual-SIM 10.or D runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat out-of-the-box along with a stock Android user interface. Amazon India is promising an Oreo update. However, it has not given any indication about the timeline. The 10.or D has a 5.2-inch HD display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor along with 2GB or 3GB RAM. The quad-core processor is clocked at 1.4GHz and is paired with an Adreno 308 GPU. As for optics, the handset features a 13-megapixel camera on the rear with autofocus as well as LED flash. There is a 5-megapixel selfie camera on the front.
The 10.or D packs in a 3500mAh battery which can last for up to two days offering a MP3 playback time of 70 hours, web browsing for 10 hours, and a talk time of up to 25 hours, according to the company. Another touted feature is the fingerprint scanner on the rear, which can unlock the 10.or D in just 0.2 seconds. Amazon India is also highlighting the Dirac speaker on the device. Other connectivity options include OTG support, FM Radio, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G and 4G along with support for Band 40 which is used by some LTE networks in the country. Sensors comprise an accelerometer, a compass magnetometer, a proximity sensor, an ambient light sensor and a gyroscope.
