Xiaomi is all set to launch its the new selfie-phone series, the Xiaomi Redmi Y in India. The New Delhi launch is being streamed live on the Mi.com site. Moreover, the launch event is being broadcast at Xiaomi’s website. Information about the launch will be available on Xiaomi India’s Facebook page and Twitter handle.
The Chinese company released the latest version of the custom Android ROM way back in July 2017. This updated version has been available in various beta versions since then. Elucidating on the Xiaomi Redmi Y series at another event held in New Delhi, the VP and Managing Director at Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain, said that the ‘Y’ in the series denotes the selfie-taking buyer. He also hinted that the company’s new Xiaomi Redmi Y series would focus on offering better selfies and, in all likelihood, sport a front-facing LED flashlight in both its budget phones.

According to tweets from Manu Kumar Jain, the launch event will see a line-up of multiple products. Xiaomi is expected to launch two smartphones in the budget category. And, the focus will decidedly be on a good battery along with a charging technology which is fast. Xiaomi is also likely to launch a budget-friendly selfie camera. Moreover, the company will also launch the MIUI 9 along with the Xiaomi Redmi Y series.
The MIUI 9 software with a Global Stable custom Android skin is meant for compatible phones in India. This software has been optimised to speed up performance in terms of quicker app load times. Also, the Image feature search is a highlight as you can distinguish images just by typing in keywords.
Another striking feature of the MIUI 9 is the Smart Assistant feature. This feature allows you to search for every possible thing on your phone. In fact, it is similar to Apple’s Spotlight feature for iOS as when you swipe to the right on the home screen it will start searching along with news, app suggestions as well as customisable widgets.
The MIUI 9 comes with several other interesting new features as well. For instance, there is a Smart app launcher which suggests the apps you can launch depending on the content visible on the screen. In addition, Xiaomi’s latest operating system comes along with four new themes, that is, No Boundary, Cool Black, Colour Fantasy, and a default theme. Other new features comprise a new design for the lock screen as well as a new shortcut which can activate the torch by swiping to the right on the lock screen. Moreover, the split-screen feature which made its debut along with Android 7.0 Nougat is also an integral part of the MIUI 9.
