Xiaomi had released a small teaser of its new smartphone Redmi 5 on March 7. This highly-awaited model is now slated for launch on March 14. A sneak peek was given at the end of an online streaming of the launch of its Xiaomi Mi TV 4A series.
The Redmi 5 is being touted as the successor to Redmi 4, and could be priced at Rs.7,999. The Redmi 5A and Redmi Note 5 are already available in the Indian market.

The device may come in three variants, with RAM of 2GB, 3GB and 4GB. These variants may have 16GB or 32GB of in-built storage. The phone will support dual-SIM.
The handset will have a 12MP rear sensor with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and LED flash. The 5MP selfie camera on the front comes with a “soft-light’ flash module. The front camera is also equipped with the Xiaomi Beautify 3.0 functionalities. The device weighs at 157g and has a 3300mAh battery.
According to a new post on Twitter by the Chinese smartphone maker, the next smartphone that is scheduled for release is being branded as a “Compact Powerhouse”, referring to both size and battery capacity. Though the exact device name hasn’t been mentioned, it is being assumed to be Redmi 5.
The phone was launched in China and is the only device from the brand that hasn’t yet hit the Indian market. The new smartphone will come with the company’s updated language and specifications.
