Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is a bezel-less device, with edge-to-edge display and an all-ceramic body, with 5.99 inches, QuadHD IPS LCD fullscreen display 2.0. Boasting resolution of 2160x1080 pixels and pixel density of 403ppi.
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is all set to launch its very first premium offering in India, following the Mi 5. The company launched its new Mi Mix 2 smartphone in the country at an event in New Delhi on October 10, 2017. The device is available at a price tag of ₹35,999. This will be a big leap for Xiaomi, given that it has so far only launched its budget phones in India. The Mi Mix 2 is, therefore, the most expensive offering from the company in the country. The smartphone will be available from November 1, 2017 on Mi.com, Flipkart, Mi Home and the company’s offline partners in India.
As with other recent smartphone launches in the country, this smartphone is Xiaomi’s flagship device in the country and comes with a bezel-less device. It is expected to compete with the OnePlus 5, which also has flagship specs and has recently taken the #1 rank in terms of online sales in the premium smartphone segment, toppling the iPhone from its throne. It will also compete with the Nokia 8, Honor 8 and Moto Z2.
The Look & Display
As mentioned earlier, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is a bezel-less device, with edge-to-edge display and an all-ceramic body. One of the most attractive features of this smartphone is its 5.99 inches, QuadHD IPS LCD fullscreen display 2.0. Boasting resolution of 2160×1080 pixels and pixel density of 403ppi, the device supports the DCI-P3 colour gamut and aspect ratio of 18:9.
The interesting ceramic body is built on a 7-Series aluminium frame, with the camera ring plated in 18K gold. Another feature that is likely to attract buyers is its “hidden sound-guided speaker,” which means that the speaker is completely hidden within the body and resonates sound through the frame and display. Xiaomi also mentioned that the smartphone would come with facial recognition for unlocking it.
Processor & Other Specs
Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, clocked at up to 2.45GHz, the Mi Mix 2 runs on Android Nougat 7.1 and a 3400mAh battery. Although Xiaomi has three variants of the smartphone, which all offer 6GB RAM but differ in storage capacity, giving buyers the option to choose from 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, the company is offering only the 6GB RAM, 128GB storage in India. However, the storage can be expanded with micro-SD.
The Mi Mix 2 is thinner, lighter and smaller than its predecessor, the Mi Mix, which did not get launched in India. With regard to connectivity, this dual-SIM (Nano SIM) phone includes dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE and GPS/A-GPS. It also supports Bluetooth and comes with USB Type C.
Today, describing a smartphone without mentioning the type of camera(s) it offers is almost a criminal offence. Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of most Xiaomi phones has been their camera. The Mi Mix 2 comes with a 12MP rear or primary camera, situated above the fingerprint
sensor. This is the same as the camera on the Mi 6. The front or selfie camera is a 5MP one placed unconventionally at the bottom right of the display.
The good news is that the smartphone comes with a Sony IMX386 sensor with 1.25 micron pixels, while the primary camera features 4-axis optical image stabilisation or OIS, 5 piece lens and f/2.0 aperture. Both the front and rear cameras include the facial recognition function.
With Xiaomi getting ambitious in India and bringing in its flagship model, we only have to wait and see whether it can dethrone the currently reigning models.
