Xiaomi Makes It to MWC 2018, Mi 7 Launch Expected

Mi 7 having a 6-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display, with resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. This would represent a major upgrade from Mi 6’s 5.15-inch LCD display.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi will be among the exhibitors at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC). The event, touted as the world’s biggest phone show, is held every year in Barcelona, Spain and sees electronic giants like Samsung, LG, Lenovo and Sony announce the launch of their latest devices.

Xiaomi had attended the MWC in 2016, where it unveiled the Mi 5. There are speculations of the Shenzhen-based company launching the Mi 7 during the event this year, scheduled to be held from February 26 to March 1.

Mi 7 Specifications

At the Snapdragon Technology Summit held in Hawaii in December, Xiaomi had indicated that Mi 7 would be the first smartphone to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC. The processor would likely clock at 2.8GHz.

There are rumors around Mi 7 having a 6-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display, with resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. This would represent a major upgrade from Mi 6’s 5.15-inch LCD display.

Rumors suggest Mi 7 to be a bezel-less device. Xiaomi had launched two Mi Mix phones, the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus, sporting narrow bezels last year.

Mi 7 is expected to offer a dual camera setup in the rear. The device would offer advanced 3D face sensing technology to unlock the screen, which is an improvement over the face unlock feature currently available in the market. There would be no fingerprint scanner.

The upcoming phone may come with a 6GB RAM and a 3200mAh battery.

Xiaomi may also launch Mi 7 Plus at the event. Other devices that may be launched at the upcoming MWC 2018 include Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, Moto X5 and Sony Xperia XZ Pro, a successor of the Sony Xperia XZ1 smartphone launched in India last year.
