Vivo X20 Plus UD has a 6.43-inch OLED display with full HD resolution of 216x1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The sensor can read fingerprints in a few milliseconds even under a layer of 1.5mm thickness, including a screen protector.
The Chinese Smartphone giant Vivo has launched its much-awaited Vivo X20 Plus UD. This world’s first smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor was launched yesterday in China.
The smartphone had turned a lot of heads at the recent CES 2018 earlier this month. Vivo X20 Plus UD features an AMOLED panel and uses Synaptics Clear ID in-display fingerprint sensor, to identify and read the unique fingerprint pattern of its owner. Available currently in an attractive black colored body with a golden frame, the device has been priced at CNY 3,598 (approx. Rs.36,100), which is much less than what was predicted.
Going by the features, the latest model is similar to the regular X20 Plus. It has a 6.43-inch OLED display with full HD resolution of 216×1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The sensor can read fingerprints in a few milliseconds even under a layer of 1.5mm thickness, including a screen protector.
The X20 Plus UD has a dual camera with 12-megapixel rear cameras and a 5-megapixel front camera. It is powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB expandable storage. The phone packs in a 3900 mAh battery and measures 165.2×80.02×7.35mm. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, Micro-USB and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The device has a dual-sim facility and comes preinstalled with Android 7.1 Nougat.
Vivo has partnered with Synaptics, a leading provider of the sensor and its technology. This sort of sensor has paved the way for smartphone manufacturers to not compromise on screen size, in order to place a front panel positioned sensor or alternatively house it on the rear of the device, which is currently the case with major flagship phones.
Vivo X20 Plus UD is scheduled to go on sale from February 1, 2018 in the Chinese markets, though preorders have started today. There are still no details about its availability in the Indian market.
