Vivo garnered huge interest at the CES 2018, with the unveiling of what could become the world’s first smartphone with an on-display fingerprint sensor – the Vivo X20 Plus UD.

Recently, popular tipster Zyad Atef leaked the price and expected launch date of Vivo X20 Plus UD via his Twitter handle. Atef mentioned that the latest Vivo phone would be launched on Thursday, January 25 at a price of CNY 3998 (approximately ₹39,900). The Chinese technology company has not conformed these details.

The Latest In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

The feature that has people talking about Vivo X20 Plus UD is its in-display fingerprint sensing technology. Vivo has access to this latest technology, known as Clear ID, due to its partnership with component maker Synaptics, which was inked in December last year.

The company mentioned that the scanner is capable of accurately reading and verifying the user’s fingerprint by transmitting beams of light through the OLED panel. It also said that the Synaptics Clear ID technology was faster than alternative biometrics currently available on smartphones, such as 3D facial recognition. “Synaptics’ high-performance Clear ID FS9500 optical solution excels with wet, dry and cold fingers, and since it’s protected by glass, is durable, scratchproof and waterproof,” Vivo said.

The Clear ID has been made highly secure with SentryPoint technology. Moreover, the technology is highly convenient for the user since its one-touch biometric authentication is in the phone’s display itself, and this allows the display to be button-free and bezel-less, making the phone look sleeker.
