Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 is making headlines for the wrong reasons with users across the US and Europe complaining that freezing issues are making their handsets unresponsive. In fact, the company’s official forums are full of complaints about the flagship product. “I am having some issues with my new Note 8 that I got yesterday. I set up speed dial and sometimes it will call but not show the contact info and sometimes it will just outright freeze on me. I am currently dialing each and every one of my contacts as of now to avoid this issue,” wrote a user on Samsung’s official forum.
Messages on the forums reveal that the Galaxy Note 8 has been facing issues since it was launched in September 2017. Moreover, any particular app or service is not responsible for the freezing issues. Currently apps as well as services causing the device to freeze include the Contacts app, speed dial, Messaging app, Chrome, Phone app and Pokémon Go.
A majority of the users have written that their device seems to stop functioning when they try to click on the messaging or the contacts app, and the dialer app in some instances. According to the Android Police team, attempts by users to uninstall and reinstall apps as well as clear the cache memory have proved to be futile. In some cases, overnight charging is causing the smartphone to freeze suddenly.
Users also complain that once their smartphone freezes, they are left only with the option of restarting it. Besides this, some of the users wait for the phone’s battery to be completely discharged. One of the users has written on the company’s community forum, “This is really upsetting since I was really looking forward to this phone [the Galaxy Note 8] after the Note 7 issues. Now, I have to hard reset my phone few times a week because it randomly freezes up.”
