Oppo F7 was launched in India at an exclusive event in Mumbai. It is one of the devices that is sporting an iPhone X-like notch on the top of the display; a trend being seen in most of the recently launched smartphones.
There had been speculations surrounding the launch of Oppo F7 in the Indian market for quite some time. The much-awaited smartphone comes with a fingerprint sensor at the rear panel and will be available from April 9 via online and offline stores. The starting price of the device has been set at Rs.21,990. Oppo has also launched special editions of the smartphone called the Oppo Diamond Black and Sunrise Red to be available only in select outlets across the country. These special edition variants will be available at a price of Rs.26,990.
The dual-sim device runs the ColorOS 5.0, based on Android 8.0 Oreo. It has a 6.23-inch full HD+ Full Screen 2.0 bezel-less display, with resolution of 1080×2280 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. At the core is the 64-bit MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core SoC.
Oppo F7 has a 16MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and AI scene recognition capabilities. On the front, the handset has a 25MP Sony IMX576 sensor, with f/2.0 aperture and HDR capabilities. The AI Beauty 2.0 app on the device allows precise images, through its ability to scan 296 facial recognition points. The app can detect a person’s age, gender and skin color differences in up to 4 different individuals. The company claims that the app is over 20% improved than its previous versions. The phone will allow multiple people beautification for group photos. The beautification feature can also be used for videos.
The smartphone is available in two variants – one with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and the other with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The inbuilt storage can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB OTG and GPS/A-GPS. Sensors on the device include an accelerometer, proximity sensor and an ambient light sensor. Under the hood is a 3400mAh battery which can support up to 33.5 hours of music playback. Oppo F7 measures 156×75.3×7.8 mm and weighs 158g. The smartphone will be available in Moonlight Silver and Solar Red color options.
On April 2, Oppo will hold a special 24-hour flash sale, where 10,000 units of the F7 model will be available for purchase on Flipkart and Oppo stores across the country, with attractive offers. Buyers using ICICI credit cards for purchase will get a 5% cashback in their accounts. Jio will provide users with 120GB 4G data, along with Rs.1,200 cashback over a period of 12 months. Oppo will offer onetime screen replacement for free, in all its authorized service centers.
Oppo F7 is a sequel to the F5 model, launched in the country in November, 2017. The Oppo F5 came with a 20MP selfie camera, along with the AI facial recognition technology. It will face stiff competition from Vivo V9, which also houses a 24MP front camera and is available in the same price range.
