Nokia 6 can avail the over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 8.0 Oreo by enrolling in the program and registering their phone on Nokia's official website.
HMD Global has announced the Android Oreo 8.0 update for Nokia 6. To recall, Nokia 8 was the first smartphone under Nokia’s Beta Labs Program to receive an update in October this year. The Nokia 5 also received an Android 8.0 beta update last week. “Just one week after the Nokia 5 Android Oreo beta labs programme, we are delighted to offer the same opportunity to Nokia 6 owners. With the Android Oreo beta on the Nokia 6, you can take a first look at amazing new features that improve usability and multi-tasking, while boosting battery life,” the company said in a press statement.
Like other Nokia devices, the Nokia 6 will get an Oreo update through the Nokia Mobile Beta Labs program. Owners of Nokia 6 can sign up for the program and get a beta Android Oreo 8.0 update before its official launch sometime in the near future. Users of the Nokia 6 can avail the over-the-air (OTA) update to Android 8.0 Oreo by enrolling in the program and registering their phone on Nokia’s official website.
Nokia 6 users can sign up on the Nokia Mobile Beta Labs Program by going to the beta labs website. They need to access this website with the help of their Google account and then register their IMEI number. After doing this, users will get the beta build update notification within 12 hours after registration. Nokia 6 users need to back up their phones before installing the Android 8.0 Oreo beta build. They can also roll back to Android Nougat in case the Oreo 8.0 beta update seems to have bugs.
The Android 8.0 Oreo beta update brings features like Picture-in-Picture, Autofill, Notification Dots, security scans from Google Play Protect and quicker boot times. However, users of Nokia 6 must proceed cautiously before installing the beta update as it may have issues and bugs.
HMD Global has not yet announced as to when the final Android Oreo update for Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 will be rolled out. It is expected that the company will roll out the official updates for Nokia 5 as well as Nokia 6 by the end of December 2017 or early 2018. The budget-friendly Nokia 3 will also receive an Android 8.0 Oreo update. The company has confirmed that the Nokia 3 will not receive an Android 7.1.2 Nougat update before being updated to Android 8.0.
When the company relaunched Nokia in the mobile phones market, it aimed at differentiating itself from the numerous smartphone makers by delivering timely updates and offering an uncluttered and clean Android build. Keeping in line with this objective, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, announced the beta lab programme a couple of weeks ago. By releasing the Oreo beta update for three smartphones, the Nokia 8, Nokia 5 and now the Nokia 6, HMD Global is reiterating the fact that providing quick software updates is one of the major USPs of Nokia smartphones.
