Nokia 1 was announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), held in Barcelona earlier this year. Nokia 1 is the latest in the lineup to be launched in the Indian market and is one of the first handsets to come with the Android Oreo (Go Edition).
This budget smartphone is available for a price of only Rs.5,499 across all mobile retailers in the country. One of its key features is that it lets its users personalize its looks by using Xpress On two-tone polycarbonate exchangeable covers. These covers, priced at Rs.450, will become available next month. They will come in attractive color options like Azure, Pink, Yellow and Grey.
The Finnish telecom giant also launched Nokia 8110 4G, Nokia 6 and Nokia 7 Plus at MWC 2018.
The device sports a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display, with resolution of 480×854 pixels. At the core, Nokia 1 is powered by a 1.1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737M processor coupled with 1GB RAM.
The Android Oreo (Go Edition) is a platform designed especially for smartphones having 1GB RAM or less. The software comes with full access to the Play Store along with reworked apps like Google Go, Gmail Go and YouTube Go, which are low on storage and memory. With Nokia’s recent strategic partnership with Google, which was announced at the MWC 2018, the device is sure to receive regular Android updates.
Nokia 1 has a 5MP camera at the rear with fixed focus and LED flash, and a 2MP camera at the front. There is 8GB of inbuilt storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. Connectivity options include 4GVoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, GPS/A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, micro-USB, FM Radio and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on the device include an ambient light sensor, accelerometer and a proximity sensor. Under the hood, there is a 2150mAh battery, which can allow up to 9 hours of talk-time and a standby time up to 15 days.
The device measures 133.6×67.78×9.5mm and is available in Dark Blue and Warm Red color variants.
Nokia has collaborated with Reliance Jio, to offer customers a cashback of Rs.2,200 on purchase of the device with the Jio Football Offer. This will bring down the effective price of Nokia 1 to Rs.3,299. The company is providing additional data of 60GB to users on the Reliance Network. Users will be offered 12-month accidental damage insurance by Servify on opening a Kotak 811 savings bank account. There will also be a 20% discount for buyers on booking their tickets for the first time on RedBus.
Nokia is largely focusing on India, Russia, Indonesia and European markets to create a strong foothold for the brand. At the recently held MWC 2018, the Finnish manufacturer expressed its ambitions to become one of the largest smartphone makers in the world in the next three to five years. It has recently launched the Nokia 6 variant in the country with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage; and this model is being well received.
