Both A1 Indian and A41 Power are the latest offerings in Airtel’s Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone programme.
Airtel has partnered with Karbonn once again to launch two affordable 4G smartphones, the Karbonn A1 Indian and the Karbonn A41 Power. This alliance is an attempt to counter Reliance Jio Phone’s aggressive pricing strategy that started data pack wars and telecom companies joining hands to offer low cost devices.
Both A1 Indian and A41 Power are the latest offerings in Airtel’s Mera Pehla 4G Smartphone programme. It is expected that the company will tie up with several OEMs in the coming days to offer cost-effective 4G smartphones at the price of feature phones. Commenting on the partnership, Raj Pudipeddi, director, Consumer Business and CMO, Bharti Airtel said, “We are delighted to deepen our partnership with Karbonn to fulfill the smartphone aspirations of India. We saw very strong demand for our first offer under the ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative, which validates the broad appeal of this innovative proposition.”
The A1 Indian costs Rs.1,799 and its MRP is Rs.4,390, whereas the A41 Power is priced at Rs.1,849 with an MRP of Rs.4,290. Both the phones are available through Amazon India. While purchasing the handsets, customers need to shell out Rs.3,299 by way of down payment for A1 Indian and Rs. 3,349 for A41 Power. Customers need to recharge their phone every month for a minimum amount of Rs. 169 for a duration of three years or 36 months. This will offer them a Rs.500 refund after a period of 18 months as well as a Rs.1,000 refund after three years or 36 months. Thus the total benefit in terms of cash will be Rs.1,500.
Besides this, Airtel has another offer for customers who do not want to use the bundled plan with a recharge of Rs.169 in both the A1 Indian as well as A41 Power smartphones. According to the company, customers can get their phones recharged for any denomination as well as validity depending on their requirements. However, to avail of this cash refund offer, recharges amounting to Rs.3,000 should be done in a time-frame spanning the first one-and-a-half year or 18 months. This will enable customers to claim the first refund of Rs.500. Moreover, they need to recharge their phone for a denomination of Rs.3,000 in the next one-and-a-half year or 18 months in order to avail the second refund of Rs.1,000.
Both the dual-SIM 4G phones have several similarities as they come with an 4-inch display and run on Android 7.0 Nougat. In terms of memory, they offer 1GB of RAM and an inbuilt storage of 8GB. This internal storage can be expanded up to 32GB through a micro-SD card. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, 4G along with VoLTE support, Bluetooth and GPS. As for the differences, the Karbonn A1 Indian has a quad-core processor clocked at 1.1GHz and comes with a 1500mAh battery whereas the A41 Power is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and has a 2300mAh battery. Moreover, the A1 Indian has a rear 3.2-megapixel camera and a front 2-megapixel camera, while the A41 Power comes with a rear 2-megapixel camera and a front 0.3-megapixel camera.
