Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro gets face unlock feature

Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a 5.99-inch full-HD screen, with resolution of 1080x2160 pixels and aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC.

Xiaomi has already started rolling out the Face Unlock feature for the Redmi Note 5 Pro via an OTA (over-the-air) update. This latest feature is part of the MIUI 9.2.4 software update. Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro went on a flash sale as Flipkart exclusives on February 22. It was a huge success and the company said it had sold over 3 lakh units within minutes.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro: Now with Face Unlock Feature

The Chinese smartphone marker had launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro earlier this month. At the launch event, the company had mentioned that the update would be available by the end of March. The latest update makes Redmi Note 5 Pro Xiaomi’s first smartphone in India to have the Face Unlock feature.

It is claimed that facial recognition technology works faster to unlock a phone than the fingerprint scanner. Xiaomi India’s Lead Product Manager Jai Mani said, “Our face detection algorithm scans facial features in roughly 500 milliseconds using a high accuracy matching mechanism.” There are concerns, however, regarding the fingerprint scanner being more secure than facial recognition.

Apart from the Face Unlock feature, the update has certain camera improvements and stability optimizations.
