In an exclusive event of ‘Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2018’, the company launched its new Galaxy S9 and S9+ on February 25, 2018, a day before the commencement of Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC) in Barcelona. The brand has given highly functional updates to its newest entrants; including the latest Exynos and Snapdragon processors and a much improved camera features, among many other additions.
Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are being touted as the successor to the brand’s S8 series, but with incremental updates. They are powered by the company’s latest octa-core Exynos 9810 chips. The US market will receive the new Snapdragon 845 processors. Both the smartphones will come with an 8-MP front facing camera with a f/1.7 aperture. In the rear Galaxy S9 will sport a single 12-MP dual-pixel sensor lens with adjustable aperture and OIS. Galaxy S9+ on the other hand will come with a 12-MP dual camera setup in the rear, with similar primary lens as S9 and a secondary camera consisting of telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture. Other updates in its camera features include the introduction of Bixby vision, which will offer live translation features.
Design wise, they are both similar to their predecessors, with a bezel-less front and an infinity display with 18:5:9aspect ratio. The rear fingerprint sensor has now been moved right below the camera. The phones have retained there 3.5 mm headphone jack. The inclusion of the fingerprint recognition system and the retaining of the 3.5mm jack along with many such features will give the phone an edge over iPhone X, which it is competing against.
Other features include AR Emojis and AKG tuned dual speakers. Galaxy S9 is priced at $719.99 (approx. Rs. 46,600) and S9+ is available at $839.99 (approx. Rs.54,400). It will be launched in selected markets and pre-orders will begin in US on March 2, 2018
