OnePlus 5T gets beta android 8.0 Oreo update

The beta build of Android Oreo-based OxygenOS for 5T includes updates like Autofill, Picture-in-Picture mode and Smart Text Selection.

OnePlus had announced last week that OnePlus 5T would be receiving the open beta Android 8.0 Oreo update soon. The roll out of the first OxygenOS beta version has begun. The OnePlus 5T, which was launched in November 2017, had recently received the OxygenOS 4.7.6 update. The company also released the Android 8.0-based OxygenOS 5.0 for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T in November 2017 and OnePlus 5 in late December 2017.

The beta build of Android Oreo-based OxygenOS for 5T includes updates like Autofill, Picture-in-Picture mode and Smart Text Selection. The update includes a new Quick Setting Design with an Android security patch for December. An updated launcher optimizes the app shortcut style, combines options for icons along with shortcuts and enables you to upload photos to Shot on OnePlus, according to the company’s changelog. The official flashing guide from OnePlus gives instructions to enable you to download the beta build on your device. Also, the ROM can be downloaded on OnePlus’ website for flashing. However, it is advisable to backup all your data prior to downloading the new beta build.

Face Unlock Feature for OnePlus 3, 3T and OnePlus 5

The company has not disclosed the detailed schedule for rolling out the official Android 8.0 Oreo update for OnePlus 5T. Going by the past record, in all probability the Android build will be rolled out soon on the phone. Despite being launched with a dated Android Nougat out-of-the-box OS, the OnePlus 5T offers a Face Unlock recognition feature which makes it better when compared to the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5. The company is planning to make this exclusive feature available on the OnePlus 3, 3T and OnePlus 5 too.

OnePlus is also gearing up to launch a new model of OnePlus 5T with a Standstone Black finish sometime this month. Currently the phone is available in a Midnight Black color and offers a Star Wars Limited variant sporting a Sandstone White finish.
