The company has now confirmed that the new functions of EMUI 8.0 would be ported to Honor 8. In a statement given to Android Police, a company spokesperson said, “To ensure Honor 8 users also benefit from the latest user experience upgrades, new functions of EMUI 8.0 will be ported to the Honor 8.


Huawei brand Honor has published the list of its smartphones that will get the Android 8.0 Oreo backed update. Honor 8 figures on this list quite unexpectedly, though it will receive only the Android EMUI 8.0 update for now, which means no Oreo features.

 

Details of the Update

Honor seems to have reversed its original decision, as there were official confirmations on its Twitter handle just last week stating that Honor 8 is not compatible with the new EMUI version on account of some hardware and software limitations.

But, the company has now confirmed that the new functions of EMUI 8.0 would be ported to Honor 8. In a statement given to Android Police, a company spokesperson said, “To ensure Honor 8 users also benefit from the latest user experience upgrades, new functions of EMUI 8.0 will be ported to the Honor 8. Further update details will be released within one week.”

Honor 8 was launched in October 2016, with Android 6.0 Marshmallow based EMUI 4.1. Huawei listened to customer feedback and then launched the EMUI 5 update for the phone in February 2017.

 

Honor 8 Specifications

Honor 8 has a 5.2-inch full HD LCD panel with 1920×1080 pixel resolution. Packed with a 3000mAh battery, the phone operates on a 1.8GHz octa-core Kirin 950 processor. Two variants offer 3GB and 4GB RAM.

The phone comes with has a dual camera setup on the back, with both primary and secondary cameras of 12MP. It has an 8MP camera in front.

Others to Get Update The other Honor smartphones to receive the Oreo update are Honor 7X, Honor V8, Honor Note 8, Honor 8Lite, Honor 9, Honor 9 Lite, Honor 8Pro, Honor View 10 and Honor V10.

There is still no clarity regarding the timeline of the update. Users will have to wait for a week for the company to make further announcements.
