The Asus ZenFone AR is going to go on sale at 4pm IST today on Flipkart, for INR 49,999. This smart phone is the first in the world that has both Tango support as well as Google Daydream. The reason this phone has been making headlines is that it allows the users to navigate augmented reality due to its Tango AR application. The phone is equipped with a number of cameras and sensors that help it enhance the AR experience for its users.

The ZenFone is loaded up with features meant to enhance the AR experience which include a 23 megapixel rear sensor, dual PDAF, OIS, EIS, motion sensors, depth sensors, laser autofocus, and even an infrared rangefinder. It also has 6P Largan lens, RGB, a wide angle lens and dual LED flash. The front camera offers HDR and real time beautification modes.

It supports a 3.5 mm headphone jack, USB Type-C 2, Bluetooth v4.2, 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and NFC. The phone is powered by a 3300mAh battery and also has a variety of sensors such as ambient light sensor, infrared sensor, accelerometer, barometer, proximity sensor, gyroscope and a digital compass.

When it comes to the design of the phone, it has a fingerprint sensor on its home button and the body has been touted a “premium-crafted metallic diamond-cut”. In India, the only colour that is going to be available for customers to buy is black.

The 128 GB storage version, along with 8GBB of RAM has been brought to Indian customers. The customers will also receive Asus ZenEar S earphones which will be supported by Hi-Res audio and DTS Headphone:X. These earphones have a triple diaphragm and are made out of aerospace metal.

The phone has a 5.7-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) Super AMOLED display that has the protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It is also claimed to have more than a 100% support for the color gamut of NTSC. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC which clocks at 2.34 GHz and 1.6 GHz. It also has 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM and is optimized for the complete performance of Daydream VR and Google Tango. The system powering it is the Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Augmented Reality experience is going to be enhanced by the NXP amplifier, DTS HD Premium Sound, Hi-Res Audio support, five magnet speaker, dual-microphone active noise cancellation and 7.1 channel virtual surround sound. The display of the phone will have a Bluelight filter and a touch response time of 60ms.

This phone, after the Google Glass and Pokémon GO, is the latest piece of technology that is going to be completely focused on Augmented Reality. The Asus Zenfone AR is going to allow users to visualize what a particular piece of furniture would look like in their homes or transport them into an environment which is completely different from the ones that they are actually in. What remains to be seen is if the customers are going to adapt to having access to AR on their phones all the time or is this going to fade out as well? Only time will be able to tell.
