Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) has announced the launch of its digital OTT (over-the-top) platform, which will offer viewers a completely integrated entertainment experience combining on-demand and live TV.
The launch of this new-age video streaming platform, named ZEE5, was hosted in Mumbai. The offering will be available at www.zee5.com as a Progressive Web App. It can also be downloaded from Google Play Store and iOS App Store. ZEE5 can be enjoyed on iOS and Android phones, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick and Chromecast.

Describing the offering, Punit Goenka, MD & CEO at ZEEL, said, “A blend of unrivalled content offering and robust technology is the foundation of this all-new digital offering from our end. The offering includes Live TV, with more than 90 highly popular channels.
ZEE5 is available in 12 languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Gujarati and Punjabi.
ZEE5 will offer content from both Ditto TV (Zee’s Live TV platform) and Ozee (Zee’s video streaming platform). So, users can choose content from either of these platforms as well as from additional content that is exclusive to ZEE5.
With this offering, ZEE5 has taken international OTT platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video head on.
It offers a Voice Search functionality to make it easier for users to watch what they want. Also, one can choose the preferred display language from among 11 languages. This is a first for any OTT platform in India.

Commenting on the changing medium of content consumption, Archana Anand, Digital Head at ZEE5 India, said, “…now the infrastructure has improved, bandwidth costs have fallen, smartphone penetration has increased and for us the timing is perfect now. It was a natural process of Zee to future-proof its business and get into digital.”
The ZEE5 subscription pack is based on a freemium model, offering both free and premium content. It is priced at ₹150 per month. Currently, it is being offered at a special launch price of ₹99 per month.
