WhatsApp is all set to join the exclusivity club as it is going to introduce verified accounts to its platform. This concept was first introduced by Twitter where a blue tick next to the profile indicated that the persons account was verified. Initially this mark of verification was only given to those people who had a certain amount of fan following and influence on the platform.

Later on, Twitter opened up the option of verification to all users but this too was subject to certain criterion. This option was made available on Facebook as well but only to those pages which have a considerable following on them. WhatsApp is all set to join this bandwagon by introducing verification on its platform as well.
The blog post on the web site says, “WhatsApp is exploring ways for you to communicate with the businesses that matter to you. Some business accounts have been verified by WhatsApp. If you see a green badge next to a contact’s name, it means that WhatsApp has confirmed that the phone number of this contact belongs to a business account.”

This feature is only going to be made available to businesses in order to make sure that the instances of frauds happening on the platform decreases. This is because WhatsApp is a platform that many companies use to run their businesses and sadly a lot of frauds happen here. However, not every single business is going to be eligible to be verified as this feature is going to be limited to a few businesses that are a part of the pilot program.
Instead of having the blue tick which can be seen on Facebook and Twitter, WhatsApp will be having a green tick to indicate a verified profile. This information has been found on the FAQ page of WhatsApp. There is also a Beta version of the application on WABetaInfo which supports those business accounts that are verified.
If the phone number of a business has already been saved on the phone, it will be seen under that same name on the chat. However, if the user has not saved the name of the business, the name that has been chosen by the business will be used. The contact details and the address of the business will also be made available next to the name. Users will also have the option of blocking businesses if they want no further contact with them.
Apart from the green tick, businesses will also be able to set working hours on the application which will allow the users to leave an “away” message. This feature will automatically manage the messages for the users. It will also mark the conversations with businesses in yellow within the chat. These messages will not be able to be deleted as they will serve as proof that the conversation has taken place between the business and the user.
The WhatsApp for Business is going to be a part of the beta version of the app: version 2.17.285. It is set to go live in around four months and Indian users are set to be amongst the first ones who are going to get the rollout of this version.
