Umang App has been developed by the National e-Governance Division and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to promote the Digital India programme.
Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the fifth edition of the Global Space Conference in New Delhi on November 23, the Umang App is the next feather in the Digital India cap. This application has been developed by the National e-Governance Division and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to promote the Digital India programme. The Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance or the Umang app aims at enabling Indian citizens to do everything digitally, whether it involves applying for a passport, registering for an Aadhaar card or a Pan number, booking a cylinder of gas, getting more details about their Provident Funds or resolving any Aadhaar-related issue.
The Umang app provides pan-India services for e-Governance as it allows users to access over 100 central and state government services in a single platform. The app currently offers services in 12 categories which comprise agriculture, employment and skills, revenue, energy, education, housing, police, finance, health, public grievance, transport and utility. It is expected that the application will provide services like PayGov and much more in the future.
The steps involved while using the app are quite simple. First, you need download the app through the Google Play store or the Apple App store. After installing Umang on your handset, open the app and enter details such as your name, phone number, age, sex and details of your Aadhaar card. This will enable you to create your account with the app. The app also allows you to edit your details. Moreover, you can link the app with your account on social media.
After creating your Umang account, you need to access the services section and filter or sort through categories as well as services. For this you need to click on the services option to avail any government-related service. After this you can choose the service category and then click on the type of service (central or regional), then you need to enter the name of the state you belong to in order to get the best results. And then you can go about sorting these results in an alphabetical order. After you do this, the app will show the best results which are based on the service category you have selected. For example, when you type out the word Crop the app will give you a listing of apps such as Agro advisory, Soil health, to name a few options. After sorting all the options, you can select the one that meets your requirements.
The app can be downloaded free of cost for Android, iOS and Windows operating systems from the Google Play store and Apple’s App store. The app is available on multiple channels such as mobile applications, IVR, web and SMS. Users can access the application via smartphones, desktops, feature phones and tablets. Besides this, there is a dedicated customer care team which operates from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day to address any queries and issues regarding the Umang app.
